Do you ever struggle with waiting on the Lord? Like what does that even mean? We are told a lot by other believers to just wait on the Lord. What does waiting on the Lord even look like? Through my experience, I’ve learned that waiting simply means to trust in God, in His Word, and in His promises. So often, I fail at this. Sometimes I would instead look at the trials of life and not believe God got it all under control. I’d rather forfeit trust in Him and think I got it on my own. Like for instance, when the floodwaters get high and the fire gets hot, do we focus more on the flood and the fire or instead that God says that they will not consume or overwhelm us. Isaiah 43:2 describes that the trial clearly looks like it could drown us or burn us up, but it won’t because God is with us and loves us. His word says to trust Him through the trials of life seem and are sometimes many, we have a Savior. We have a Father who protects and leads His children through them. The same God that was with Moses and parted the Red Sea, the same God with David when he defeated Goliath. The same God was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when they refused to bow down to the golden statue and were thrown into the fiery furnace, but God did not allow them to be burned up. That God is the same God who is with you leading and protecting you. Sometimes it might feel like the wait is a trial in itself, but I can stand firm on saying it doesn’t have to. His word tells us differently in Psalms 23:1-6

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”

Why is it that our wants get in the way of waiting on the Lord? They cause us not to trust. They cause us to take control because of our fears; God has everything we need. His ways are much better, and resting in Him in the waiting is the best thing for us. The first couple verses of Psalms 23 says it clearly, The Lord is my shepherd I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He is our peace in the waiting, the love that our heart so longs to be wrapped up in. We cannot build our life upon just anything and expect an abundant life, our Jobs nope our family’s nope our success, definitely not our money, these will never satisfy. It is Jesus Christ and in Him alone that we will find life abundant and satisfying. Don’t let the fear of not knowing the next move lie to you and manipulate you into your own control but put your trust in the risen Christ, the Good Shepherd, let Him lead you in the right paths that bring honor to His name.

So, Christian, I assure you that God will not fail you. His love is unfailing! He is with you, and He loves you amid your trial and suffering, especially in the waiting. So be strong and let your heart take courage. Trust in God and take Him at His Holy Word. I want to leave you with this scripture Psalms 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord.
